Congratulations on your new tattoo! Below we have provided the steps necessary to properly care for it. If you have any additional questions please feel free to contact us @n9nelivescollective on instagram.
Keep your clear bandage on for the first 2-3 days unless your artist says otherwise.
Fluid retention underneath the wrap is normal.
(blood, ink, and a muddy appearance)
You should remove the wrap if you notice signs of infection or an allergic reaction (red bumps, puss, and/or excessive swelling)
If the bandage begins to fall off before the recommended time, early removal is fine.
Remove the bandage under warm running water to loosen the adhesive. This is easiest to do in the shower.
Slowly pull the bandage off, allowing the water to run under the film. Do not yank or rip the bandage off as this may cause irritation.
After the bandage is removed, wash the area with Gold Dial soap
or any antibacterial non-scented soap.
Rinse with warm water and pat dry with a clean paper towel.
Then apply a thin layer of ointment.
We recommend Aquaphor
Expect flaking/itching.
Do not pick at any flaking skin or scabs.
This may pull out your ink.
Apply healing ointment for the rest of the healing process (14-21 days).
Staying moisturized will help with the itching.
It is normal for blood and fluids to bubble up under the bandage.
The bandage should not be worn for longer than 7 days.
If the fluid is bothering you carefully make a hole and drain it.
Derm Shield/Saniderm contain adhesives that may cause allergic reactions in people with adhesive allergies. If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use immediately and if severe, consult a physician.
Signs and symptoms of infection include, but are not limited to, pus/purulent drainage, redness, swelling, tenderness of the procedure site, red streaks going from the procedure site towards the heart, or elevated body temperature.
Seek medical care if signs and symptoms occur.
You should wait for your tattoo to fully heal, which can take at least 2 to 4 weeks before swimming in any kind of water. Bathing is accepted as long as you keep it out of contact with other scented soaps or body wash. After shower wash tattoo with gold dial soap as directed in "Bandage Removal" above.
Wait at least 10-14 days for your tattoo to heal before exposing it to the sun. If you have to go in direct sunlight, wear a piece of clothing that will fully cover the tattoo.
Avoid pet hair. Pet hair is the #1 way people get their tattoos infected. If you sleep with an animal or can’t avoid pet hair we recommend wrapping your tattoo. You can wrap your tattoo with saran wrap or cling wrap.
Do not apply sunscreen for approximately one month after you have gotten your new tattoo.
The best way to protect your new tattoo during this time is to keep it covered or away from sunlight.
Do not shave the skin your tattoo was applied to for approximately one month.
Do not leave your tattoo wrapped for longer than your artist recommends.
Do keep your new tattoo clean during the healing process. Sweat and dirt carry bacteria
that can interfere with the healing process.
DO apply sunscreen when you will be out in the sun, especially if you will be outside for prolonged periods of time. Sunscreen will help your tattoo retain its vibrancy over time and prevent excess fading
